Bio

George Worthy is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser/composer, sound artist and weaver based in Naarm, Melbourne. He studied bassoon and composition at Australian National University (ANU), School of Music 2010, and graduated with First class honours majoring in Sound Art at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2014.

He completed a Certificate 3 in Live Production Services from Arts Centre Melbourne in 2016 and worked with Australia' leading arts institutions as a sound technician and score reader.

George specialises in electro-acoustic improvisation and composition on bassoon and clarinet. He brings his passion for wind instruments and electronic sound manipulation into the contemporary sound field. Elements of sound design, the practice of deep listening, classical form, and North Indian raga and experimental music techniqies inform his music practice.

He has composed music and sound design for festivals, contemporary dance and record releases and recorded on multiple projects throughout Australia and Internationally.

Currently George is learning the sarangi from Sangeet Mishra.

George is also a hand weaver, having learnt the art of weaving at the age of 13 from the Bega Valley Weavers he now brings together his sound and fibre practices to weave graphic scores and wearable art pieces inspired by sound.
