Solo electro-acoustic bassoon music exploring uncomfortable ambient atmospheres. Inspired by my passion for Indian classical music, jazz, free improvisation and sound art practices.

I have used extended techniques such as augmented fingering systems, multi-phonics, key clicks, breath and use of high gain amplification systems to bring together my passion for finding new ways of music making for solo bassoon. Repetition of gesture, static harmonisation and granular loop manipulation are key elements in this music.

Textures of Dance - Compositions inspired by the many tones and textures from Melbourne to Alice Springs

Textures of Dance is a collection of compositions reflecting my journey from Naarm to Mparntwe, Melbourne to Alice Springs written in early 2023.

These compositions reflect the landscapes, skyscapes and soundscapes that I travelled through; from the wheat fields of Western Victoria, through the Riverina and salt lakes of South Australia, up through Port Augusta, into the surreal landscape of Coober Pedy and finally into the deep resonance of Alice Springs (Mpartnwe).

I have used field recordings collected from the Merri Creek to Alice Springs, synthesizers, clarinet, zither, flute, mbira, harmonica and electronic manipulation to paint my experienced sonic landscape.

This journey captured my heart, it hurtled me into the sky and across the purple and red earth. It helped me listen and then filled me with inspiration. The feeling of traveling through these incredible lands, skies and soundscapes was that of a tangible nature; it was a texture, and the force of that feeling was that of a body dancing through space - thus Textures of Dance.

In Conversation - Live recording of collaborative project with sitarist and vocalist Sarita McHarg

This music was recorded in one take on a warm early afternoon in February 2021 in between Covid lockdowns in Melbourne, Australia.

Sarita and I wanted to explore our musical conversations within the electro-acoustic medium. We had only ever played acoustically before this.
We came together for an afternoon of improvised music making, we were both ecstatic that we were able to play again after a year of Covid lockdowns.
We had no plan aside from creating a space that was respectful of each other, one that was meditative, reflective and based on active listening.

Live at Loop Bar - 2018.png

This is a re-release of a live recording of a set I played at Loop Bar in Melbourne (Naarm), Australia. This set was performed in November of 2019.

Whilst improvisation, listening and responding to my environment are at the fore in this set I have inter-twined structure throughout by including compositional form creating an interplay of composition and improvisation; known and unknown; heard and unheard.

The compositions in this set are inspired by field recordings and time spent at Mount Geboor, (Mount Macedon) in the central highlands of Victoria.
